This is the view of Kangerlussuaq as seen on the way to Lake Ferguson. Bug season starts around
the beginning of June here, and I hear it's brutal. Glad to have missed it on this trip. The water in the fjord downstream of Kangerlussuaq is still frozen over, however there is open
water near the town due to the meltwater flowing in from the Watson River. This means lots of fog at the Kangerlussuaq airport even when the land a couple miles away is fog-free.
Summit Camp, May 2005. The mountains of snow
make a good vantage point for a look at the camp.
A view of the station from the other side,
taken from a little ways up the Swiss Tower. The person on the far left near the science trench is Jason, currently a Summit Scitech. I met him at South Pole last year, where he and Glen wintered
over as NOAA techs working at the ARO facility.
