The Suffolk Building Society has promoted Rebecca Newman to chief operating officer (COO) from her former position as chief of staff.
Newman takes on the new role from former COO Ian Brighton, who has been named head of credit and mortgage management.
His new role combines his previous responsibilities with an additional operational mission, including change management and IT and information security.
She will also be responsible for outsourcing and operational resilience who will sit within the team of the office of the general manager.
Having worked in the building society sector for over 30 years, Brighton will move away from the board and management team to a more hands-on role.
Brighton will be responsible for the entire mortgage life cycle and the lending function will continue to report to it.
The company says both roles are central to its environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) strategy, which includes developing the green finance program and reporting on climate change, with Newman leading the program as executive sponsor.
